Hot Air Ballooning

The majority of flights take-off just after sunrise from the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka close to the Kandalama Hotel just outside of Dambulla. It may seem early for some, but there is nothing more stunning than being so close to the sight of apricot hues lightening the dark sky. Watch as the countryside under you becomes smaller and smaller as the hot air balloon takes off to the mesmerizing Sri Lankan sky world.

Once the beautiful sunrise enhances the panoramic views, be it mist clung to the hazy hills in the north or the dominating deep green landscape in the south and west, you will start enjoying this trip to the fullest.

Relax and savour the silence up in the air, only the infrequent roar of the burner and faint sounds of life below can be heard across the tea-clad hillsides, winding roads, little rural villages and beautiful valleys of paddy.

Balloning trips are available from October to May when weather conditions are at its best.

Concerning the safety of Hot Air Balloning trips, there is nothing one should worry about! The hot air balloon pilots are trained by instructors licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka and an experienced crew in a support vehicle will follow the flight with constant communication with the balloon pilot.
